Education @ Hartford Stage announces online Fall Youth and Adult programs

Free Youth Classes for Hartford Residents

Hartford, CT – After a successful launch of online education classes this summer for both youth and adult students, Education @ Hartford Stage has announced a Fall line-up of 7 youth classes and 5 adult classes.

“We were delighted to have 75 students join us this summer for our first online classes.” said Jennifer Roberts, Director of Education @ Hartford Stage. “Working in a virtual space still allowed students to form bonds, but also created some unique opportunities to collectively explore the craft of theatre. We look forward to challenging our students and teaching artists to find new avenues of creativity this fall.”

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announces grant award at Hampton University

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and assistant secretary for career, technical, and adult education at the U.S. Department of Education Scott Stump were at Hampton University Friday to announce that the university was one of eight locations to receive grant funding to provide students the opportunity to develop new skills in high demand areas.

Northam announces higher ed refinancing plan

Plan could save public colleges, universities $300M+ total

While higher education institutions have needed to make budget cuts due to the pandemic, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Tuesday a higher education refinancing plan that would save Virginia’s public colleges and universities a total of more than $300 million (among 16 schools) during the next two years. 

Taking advantage of low interest rates, the state will refinance bonds issued by the Treasury Board of Virginia (TBV) and the Virginia College Building Authority (VCBA).

“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have tremendous impacts on higher education, including the fiscal health of our colleges and universities,” Northam said in a statement. “Families all over the country are taking advantage of record low interest rates to refinance their home mortgages, and we want our public institutions to benefit as well. ISD 199 Announces Director Of Special Services

Inver Grove Heights Schools Assistant Director of Special Education, Abel Riodique, will become the district’s Director of Special Services at the beginning of October as current director Mary Garrison retires after 8 years of service to the district. Mr. Riodique and Mrs. Garrison have worked closely together in the Special Services Department throughout their careers with the district.

In addition to the connections he has built with staff and families as assistant director, Mr. Riodique brings nearly 20 years of special education experience to the position. He holds a master’s degree in special education and earned an Education Specialist in Educational Leadership degree.
