JENNIFER: AS STUDENTS CONTINUE VIRTUALLY LEARNING, YOU MAY HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT CYBER SECURITY. KIDS CAN BECOME EASY TARGETS FOR HACKERS. JOINING US WITH TIPS ON HOW TO STAY SAFE, CYBER SECURITY EXPERT GREG STEWART. GOOD MORNING. SO NICE TO SEE YOU. >> GOOD MORNING, JEN. GOOD TO SEE YOU. >> OH, SO YOU HAVE TIPS FOR EVERYONE TO STAY SAFE. WHAT WOULD BE THE NUMBER ONE TO THINK TO START WITH? >> I WOULD START WITH A LOT OF THE SCHOOLS PROVIDE DEVICES TO THE STUDENTS, AND WE SUPPORT SOME OF THOSE SCHOOLS. SO THE FIRST THING IS START WITH WHAT THE SCHOOL TELLS YOU TO DO WITH THE DEVICE. THAT’S NUMBER ON IF YOU USE YOUR OWN PERSONAL DEVICE, NOT PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE YOUR SOFTWARE UP TO DATE. MAKE SURE YOU KEE YOUR PASSWORDS SECURE. AND ANY TIME YOU’RE ON AN INTERACTIVE SESSION LIKE THIS, AND YOU STEP AWAY TO GO TO THE BATHROOM OR WHATEVER, CLOSE YOUR LAPTOP, CLOSE YOUR KHREEM BOOK. IF IT’S A DEVICE LIKE A PHONE OR AN IPAD, LOCK IT BEFORE YOU STEP AWAY. >> HERE’S AN IMPORTANT ONE. I SEE DELETE MESSAGES FOR FROM STRANGERS. THAT’S IMPORTANT. >> VERY IMPORTANT. IF YOU GET A MESSAGE FROM SOMEONE YOU DON’T KNOW, THE BEST PRAXIS DON’T CLICK ON ANY LINKS, DON’T RESPOND TOIT. JUST DELETE IT. >> WE HAVE A LOT OF CHILDRE WITH PARENTS AS CAREGIVERS. PARENTS MAY BE AWAY FROM THEIR CHILD WHILE THEY WORK. HOW DO YOU GET A CHILD TO THINK SECURITY AT ALL? >> PARENTS SHOULD TALK WITH THE CHILD TO GIVE THEM BASIC BEST PRACTICES, LIKE I JUST TALKED ABOUT. IF YOU’RE GOING TO STEP AWAY, LOCK YOUR IPAD, CLOSE YOUR COMPUTER JUST LIKE YOU DO IN LIFE, SAME THING ON THE INTERNET. IF YOU GET A MESSAGE FROM SOMEONE YOU DON’T KNOW, DON’T RESPON GET TO MOM AND DAD. >> WE TALKED EARLIER ABOUT THE RISE IN CYBER CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN DURING THE PANDEMIC. WITH SO MANY MORE KIDS SPENDING TIME ONLINE, IT’S A SERIOUS CONCERN. >> IT ABSOLUTELY IS, JEN. AND THAT’S WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT THAT PARENTS DO TALK WITH THEIR KIDS ABOUT THIS, NOT TO BE OVER THEIR SHOULDERS, BUT MONITOR WHAT THEY’RE DOING. THERE ARE APPS TO HELP YOU MONITOR WHAT’S GOING ON WHILE YOU’RE AT WORK. JENNIFER: BEFORE WE GO, CAN ULIS JUST MAYBE TWO APPS? >> ONE OF THEM TEACHERS USE IS CALLED HIPARA THAT WORKS WELL ON CHROMEBOOKS THAT ALLOWS YOU TO SEE WHAT’S ON YOUR CHILD’S SCREEN. JENNIFER: WE’LL TRY TO GET ANOTHER ONE FROM YOU SOON. AND POST THAT ON OUR WEBSITE AS WELL. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I APPRECIATE IT. >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH F
