Grower wants to educate attendees at this year’s Fresh Summit

Educating the industry. That is the approach one grower is taking towards this year’s PMA’s virtual Fresh Summit Show, starting today.

“The virtual format gives us the opportunity to teach and educate the industry, especially those who usually aren’t able to experience the field first hand,” says Nichole Towell, senior director of marketing and package procurement for Duda Farm Fresh Foods. “This gives everyone a front row seat to the supply chain. This new format also still allows product demonstrations to take place even when we cannot meet in person.”

For Duda, that supply chain includes its Dandy Super Sweet Corn that it’s currently harvesting in Georgia but will transition to Florida in early to mid-November. “Hurricane Sally has created some challenges due to the amount of rain received in the region. But the outlook is improving and moving in the right direction.” She adds that markets are above average and that all growers are experiencing the same issue.

Lower corn yields
As for overall volume, she notes that planted acres remain steady but decreased stand loss and reduced yield have impacted the harvest so far in Georgia.

Meanwhile demand is high for both bulk and value-added corn says Towell. “Growth in the category continues, especially in value added corn items,” she says. Prices on corn are far above average due to those shortages created by Hurricane Sally.

Corn will most definitely be a talking point for Duda at Fresh Summit, a show the company has attended since the beginning. “Our theme this year is ‘Discover the Duda Difference.’” says Towell. “We’ve built out an interactive page so everyone can experience the brand and product virtually yet personally. We wanted to come up with a way for viewers and attendees to still experience the Duda difference.” In addition to the Dandy product lineup, the company will also have Chef Todd Fisher, its culinary ambassador, hosting a virtual cooking demonstration involving new recipes.
