We need to continue the momentum. Unfortunately, the world was faced with a Global Pandemic and all school and academic projects were put on hold. Once we realize the impact of COVID-19 to the district, the Board needs to re-focus on getting back on track of implementing the projects and progress that has been made inside and outside the classrooms! The Sun will preface our endorsements here by saying the most important vote regarding the Board of Regents will be on Ballot Question 1 — the measure that would pave the way for reform of the higher-education system by removing the regents from the state constitution.

We’ll write far more about this issue, but the upshot is that it’s time for the regents and the system’s administrative overlords to be brought under control. As is, the way the regents were written into the Nevada Constitution has created confusion over the years about the extent of the board’s authority, with the regents at times claiming it makes the higher-ed system a separate, fourth branch

1. Why are running for Board of Education?

I’m running for re-election to continue the progress that has been made by our Board over the last 3 years. Three years ago my goals were to help improve our overall budget, improve technology and other key teaching programs and improve our test scores. We have achieved the majority of the budget improvements and educational enhancements. We still have some work to do in order to improve our test scores.
