Fright for lovers

NE Wales ghost researcher Richard Holland unearthed a story that spooked two young lovers...

The pair were walking down the Old Warren, Broughton, before the Chester bypass was built and the road led to Buckley.

The road was heavily wooded and was frequented by courting couples in the 1930s when the following incident happened.
Suddenly the couple spotted a figure coming towards them, taller than anyone they had seen before.

Richard said he was told by the daughter of the couple, who later married, that the stranger was a tall, thin, elderly man.

He was dressed in black and wore a broad-rimmed hat. But he was not walking; he appeared to be gliding. He passed the couple by without making a sound. He did not stop and neither did he change his forward-facing gaze to acknowledge the couple.

The daughter of the couple said that her aunt also witnessed the same apparition whilst she was courting. She was standing by her future husband's motorbike while the pair were saying goodnight as the old man glided passed.

At the same time the motorbike's lights flickered on and off as he went by. Again the main metadescription was that the man was very tall.
