I think what his problem was that he didnt understand you, and to be honest, i dont understand the response either!

what he is trying to say, and i mean this with all due respect for you Titarnia, is that how can u be 100% sure of spirits, but still be open to other theories and suggestions? I myself, believe in it only about 70% the rest is a hell of alot of "what ifs" and ive still had alot of experiences that i would put down to paranormal, but theres still a healthy doubt.......i could NEVER claim to be 100% certain, untill i am a spirit!!!!

This is a good debate and neednt get personal, i think Titarnia if u explain yourself in slighlty more simplistic terms for the sake of Paul (he is a man after all) and admittidly myself, then you will get that respect you deserve. This forum isnt about quashing beliefs but understanding where everyone is coming from.

Titarnia, is this one of your quotes that paul is going on about? cos i think the thread did start with the reasonable challenge asking you to explain your beliefs as he seemed confused- I think it would be better if u did explain them to him if possible!

Oh goodness no, your post, and indeed trystans are completly vailed! Its just politics are something that arent really top of the list right now for people who saw it, although i think its only just starting to sink in and it will only be a short time before governments are blamed etc.

What I wanted to try and say, that i understand politics are the cause of this, but i had just wanted this thread to be maybe seen as a rememberance thread... and i was sort of hoping that the politics, although important, could just be laid aside, just until we've come to terms with it all.

Your views are always important Tracee, and sorry too if i sounded defensive- im still in shock!

Sorry, when writing the original post, I was over come with emotion, as i had literally seen alot of went on at Aldgate east station with my own eyes, as it is at the top of my road where i work. I know its not something thats new to the world, but it is something thats new to MY world, I am not used to seeing people first hand with severe burns and panic on their faces..... self centered maybe, but i couldnt help it, nor could the other Londoners who have been wondering "WHY" the past 24 hours, Im sure in the next week/month the politics will become clearer to someone like me who maybe ignorant to it right now, but please forgive me and maybe others who are just seeing the black and white for the time being.

again, my thoughts go to the families of my fellow 39 (+) london commuters who lost their lives.

Im stuck in the middle of all the terror attacks that are going on at the min in london, and i just wanted everyone to spare a thought to the people who are injured (theres alot of walking wounded near my building- aldgate train station is at the top of my road) and those who have sadly lost their lives.

Lets all hope that one day terrorism will be a thing of the past and we can all live in harmony, no matter what colour or creed we are.

This is very scary stuff.

Hi,

seeing as ive nothing better to do at work today, i thought id type up the interview with Gordon Smith in todays London paper- "the metro" soz in advance for any typeo's!

Glaswegian pyschic Gordon Smith came to prominence after a BBC documentary examined his work and the scientific tests he underwent at Glasgow University. The former barber is "the beckham of mediums" Professor Archie Roy has concluded. Resident pyschic at Best magazine, Smith has written two books.

How did you discover your psychic powers?
It was in my early twenties. A friend's brother died in a house fire and the night he died, he appeared in my bedroom. Things like that happened all through my childhood but I had no idea what it was at the time.
How did you hone your psychic skills?
I went to a spiritualist church and they had a training group for mediums. It lasted about seven years in all - you have to learn to meditate and learn what is in your mind and what isn't. You need to ask yourself if you're making it up, which is why I took part in scientific tests at Glasgow University. I was prepared for them to say: 'No, it's all coming out of your own mind' - which happens when bogus psychics do 'cold readings'. We did some double blind tests - when I wouldn't be in the same room or city - and still got good results.

What were the most impressive results?
They didn't let me know what a lot of the results were. The only reason I'm aware of this example was because it was included in a BBC documentary. The scientists gave me a seating plan of another room somewhere else in the university. I said the person sitting in seat 15 was a woman whose husband was called John Taylor who had just died and she lived in a place called Christmas Cottage. I gave them more accurate, specific stuff - and it was all true. It wasn't like I was saying: 'Have you got a dead granny?'

You don't take money for readings - why is that?
I'm happy to make money out of my books but, when it comes to people in one-on-one situations, I feel I can't put a price on it. It's a difficult thing to sit there with someone whose child has just died and say: 'Thanks very much, that's £40.' Mediumship doesn't have a good image because some people extort the bereaved.

Have you ever had messages from famous dead people?
Absolutely

Want to tell me who?
No - it's a bit unfair on the people who came to me. They are called private readings for a reason.

It's difficult to say to someone whose child has just died: 'Thanks very much, that's £40'
How does it work - do ghosts appear in front of you?
No. It works through the individual's emotions. If someone who has no cares in the world comes for a reading, the chances are I won't be able to tell them anything, just usual run-of-the-mill stuff. If someone comes in who has just lost a child, the emotion is so obvious straight away. That emotion charges the whole thing. I tune into that and pick things up. Then, when I get a contact, I can get as much specific information as possible and try to give the person some sense of closure. There's a healing process - if there isn't, it's not worth doing.

You don't walk through your daily life getting psychic messages then?
Only if I've taken ecstasy or something, ha ha ha. No. That reeks of being demented.

Has your work given you an insight into the after-life?
When someone comes to me and they're seriously grieving - their child has been murdered, for example - there's a heavy energy associated with that. For me to get a message saying the dead person is OK gives me a small insight. You can piece things together but I'd never say I understood what happens. I'm sure it's different for everyone. But beyond this physical life, you don't grieve or desire. All the things that complicate our lives end with the physical body.

Is reincarnation for real?
You'd need to ask a Buddhist - stuff like that is best left to people who practise it. I've met people who say they've experienced past lives and their stories have been very accurate and credible. I ask people to accept the fact I speak to dead people, so I'm not going to knock someone who says it's possible to live three times.

Got a psychic message for me?
You're going to be a fabulous writer. That's the standard message from a psychic when you pay for a reading - tell the person something they want to hear - they think they've got their money's worth. You're a great-looking guy and you're going to go so far in life. Blah, blah, blah, there you go.

You were offered a TV show where you were to put people in contact with dead celebrities.
Yes but I turned it down and so did all the other psychics they offered it to - although Freddie Mercury's name was mentioned for some reason. Another idea was for me to go head to head with James Randi. But he's not a serious-minded scientist, he's just a debunker, so I turned it down. They offered me a huge amount of money but I still said no. Sometimes they want me to repeat the scientific tests I did on TV but I say no because they're TV producers, not scientists, so how are they going to reproduce a properly controlled test that was repeated over seven years? Other times, they don't know the subject and ask me to sit beside a grave and see if I can pick anything up but that's not how it works - it's a load of stupid ideas.

What's your book The Unbelievable Truth about?
It's waking people up to how to get a reading and not put up with all the rubbish they hear - how to spot fake psychics, really. It's coming out in paperback this summer. It's a guide to some of the people who are genuine - just showing the difference between what's credible and what's not. If you walk in and they want to charge you £200, they're obviously only doing it for their own financial gain. It also reminds people about not leaping to conclusions - a noise in your house could be just the central heating. You have no idea how many times psychics are called in to supposedly haunted houses over something as trivial as the plumbing.

Taken from the Metros 60 second interview.

hiya

re the ouiji board experience with the baby- any one thought of the possibility of a mischevious spirit who wanted to give false anwsers? i know if i was in spirit and it was my time of month or something and called up by a quiji board- and i couldnt be bothered to anwser properly- id make up a persona- like Crusty the clown or something.... Just a possible theory.

And for what its worth, i dont personally believe that we do age in spirit. From my experience, quite the opposite where a spirit will appear in a "younger form" to how they died, or they will appear how they were most remembered by. For example- my nan died of cancer a long time ago, and if she ever pops in to say "hello" to me, she always looks youthful and radiant like in the picutres of her when i was first born- not pale and fragile like her last few months on earth when i was a teenager. Maybe its all in the mind and u picture them how you remember them- but i dont believe that they carry on aging. I think thats what happens on the earth, not in spirit. However, i do know a friend who sadly miscarried, and years on would claim her child was growing in spirit, and she sees the child how it would have been.

Looking at this thread, its really amazing all the different theories and ideals put together by believers though isnt it? if one medium says "yes we age in spirit" and another says "no we dont" its really easy to see why sceptics cant take them seriously! there seems so many discrepencies sometimes. And although i do believe, i still cant help but question that belief quite vigourously from time to time.......... oh well i guess we will all find out once and for all in the end!!!!

is it supposed to be a haunted place?

and also the following could be a problem for potential investiagtors........

Can I take photographs in the mine?
No. Smoking materials and battery operated equipment such as cameras, watches and mobile phones are not permitted underground, but may be safely deposited in the lamproom.

hi nicowagg, i really do understand your plight- and we could talk about dead animals and their spirits till the cows come home (hope u dont mind the pun) but in such a fashion that wouldnt potentially offend people and on a thread dedicated to spirits of deceased animals.

These images are real, and i know u feel passionately about them- but please understand that this is a paranormal website- not a pro vegan, vegetarian, meat eating or indeed cheese lovers advert!

Now without letting this get too petite, as i know that people should be entitled to freedom of speech and to express their beliefs, but please please please can you keep it to a smaller non intrusive also non offending banner? Theres no reason why you cant have a smaller note as your signature- but not one that can potentially draw us away from the reason why were all here or upset the younger members of guk.

Again, i totally understand how passionately you feel about the subject, and i completly respect your feelings. Just can you please consider the rest of the members feelings here at GUK?

thanks

Please do not resort to any kind of childish behaviour here, it is for respectful debates only.
